A sewage treatment plant (STP) and a solid treatment facility will soon be set up near Jewar Bangar, a township being built to rehabilitate the 3,000-plusfamilies of the seven villages displaced by the Jewar airport project. Though several displaced families have already started staying in the township, only limited urban services are available in Jewar Bangar currently.
Officials of the Yamuna Expressway Authority said that a budget of about Rs 8.20 crore has been already approved for the two projects. “Tenders for the two projects will be floated next week, before Diwali,” an Authority official said.
The STP will have a capacity of treating 5 million liters of wastewater produced by the families staying in the township on a daily basis. A lot of families who have shifted to the place have got septic tanks built. “All the drains in the township are yet to be connected to the sewerage line. The sewerage line work has been done, but it is not functional yet,” said Devendra Singh, a resident from Rohi pocket.
CEO of YEIDA, Arun Vir Singh said that tenders to execute the STP work were floated in the past. “But the companies that participated could not qualify in the bidding process due to some reasons.”
The Authority evaluated its terms and conditions and will float the tender again for setting up the STP and a separate one for establishing the solid waste treatment plant next week. A separate work order will be issued for constructing public toilet blocks in the township.
